What I think would work for me is if I could select the measures where I wanted lyrics locked (this could be all layers or one layer depending on "view current layer only" just as with other editing). Looks like I'm late to this debate, but if some is still reading this, then OK. Could they not simply go to a separate lyrics file of orphan syllables, which does not reflow the entire system? That would make it easier to make the small changes after the initial input. With complex, polyphonic scores, it is a big guessing game.Īnother possibility would be that once lyrics are entered, any changes made by Typing Into Score would NOT belong to the original lyrics page. As it is now, you have to Specify to Finale which lyric it is. The problem could be ameliorated considerably if Finale could TELL YOU which lyric you are editing in the score, as soon as you start editing.

Then it would be easy to add a note and syllable after the fact without risking a lyrics train wreck, requiring endless manual repositioning. This would prevent the dreaded accidental-lyrics-reflow when a change is inadvertently made. They could also be unlocked, if needed., like the Do Not Reflow command for systems. I suggest looking at locking lyrics to their assigned notes, once entered. 95 and the way they are handled has never really improved much. Much faster than trying to handle text in Page View.
You can then filter for all lyrics, or for a specific verse (using Advanced Search). You can then double-click on the stave to which the lyrics are attached, and the entire stave-from the first bar to the last-will be selected. One more tip: if you are doing anything to an entire verse, change your view to Panorama view. Sib 7 is markedly faster for working with hymn verses because of how much easier it is to use Advanced Search to select a particular verse. Lyrics are a specially-defined type of text-so you can filter for lyrics, and even filter for specific verses. I have found that I use more styles than that, and have defined Lyrics 6 through Lyrics 8. Sibelius ships with predefined styles for Lyrics 1 through Lyrics 5. If you will be entering additional verses there are not default shortcuts for them-just select the starting note, choose the Text tab, and drop down the list of lyrics by clicking on the little down arrow beneath the Lyrics icon. The cursor will display beneath Verse 1, and any text you enter will be styled as Lyrics 2. When you're ready to type your second verse, select your starting note (again) and type CTRL+ALT+L. Similarly, if you delete the notes (even if you don't delete the staff) the lyrics will be deleted as well. If you copy those notes and paste them somewhere else, the lyrics will go along too (unless you have filtered your selection). Note that the lyrics are considered to be attached to the notes in the stave (and the voice) you initially selected.
